I am cross-posting an alert from the New Jersey Animal Rights Alliance. Here, again, is an example of the needless kiling of a bear who, if left alone, would have gone back to the woods. It climbed the tree to protect itself rather than attack anyone. This bear showed clear signs of fear of humans. Yet, the NJ Depart of Fish and Wildlife chose to kill it. This course of action is inhumane and unneccesarily deadly. These officers should be sanctioned.

Background:
A yearling was killed in the Lake Wanda section of Highland Lakes on Sunday, July 26. This was the second bear to be killed in less than one week in the Township. This bear, a 2-year recently released from his mother, was not seen by a witness doing nothing but walking through the neighborhood. It took 4 shots to kill him. Residents at the scene were horrified, upset and unable to protect this poor young bear. The Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) uses the killings of bears to garner support for a bear hunt. In fact, the homeowner, who is responsible for causing the death of several bears in this community, continues to attract them to his home. On Sunday, he threatened to have another bear killed as soon as he could arrange it. This same man has been seen running through the neighborhood with a paintball gun, aiming and shooting at bears, trespassing on private property and causing a major disruption of the quiet enjoyment and peaceful nature of the community. The Vernon police do nothing to investigate this situation and often make it worse.
PLEASE JOIN US AT THIS CRITICAL PROTEST.
WE MUST SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL OF YOUR LISTS AND SOCIAL NETWORKING GROUPS. BRING SIGNS. BRING COOL WATER AND DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE WEATHER TO PREVENT BURNING - SEE CURRENT FORECAST BELOW. RAIN OR SHINE.
