2010 New Jersey Bear Hunt. Manufactured Statistics, Not Science. Gov. Christie. DEP Commissioner Bob Martin.

It usually takes an insider to show us the way through the veil of hypocrisy and past a wall of lies. Governor Christie, together with Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bob Martin, champions a science-based "bear hunt" to control the black bear population in New Jersey.

But, is it truly a hunt when hunters are allowed to bait the bears with food instead of the traditional method of stalking the prey? Where is the skill, or sportman's honor, in shooting a baited animal? Even worse, bear cubs no bigger than your average sized dog have been shot dead. What is euphemistically referred to as a hunt is, in reality, a wholesale massacre of bear families. It is a hate-based destruction of our natural treasures. This massacre, over 400 bears killed in the first three days, panders to the blood lust of the hunting community. It is as banal as that and the hunters frolick upon the blood of innocent and harmless bears that they so readily portrayed as a nuisance and even a threat to their safety.

The truth is, if controlling the bear population meant reading a book at the library, these people wouldn't be out there at all, would not care an iota about bear population control. However, give them a chance to shoot for blood, they will embrace the idea.

Is this hunt really based on science? View the video and let the former Commissioner of the DEP tell you what he thinks.

This all has my blood boiling, especially seeing the ignorant, hateful comments of the hunters and their supporters on The Record's online coverage. This hunting is a slaughter plain and simple and to disguise bloodsport as population control is ridiculous. No one should take joy in the killing of a living being. As if the geese slaughter was not bad enough. What's next?

Christie didn't get my vote last time, and I cannot wait to vote against him again.

Catherine: I have made up my mind not only to vote against Christie, but to volunteer to the campaign against him in the next elections.
He has taken New Jersey into a tailspin, down the path of degeneration.

Yes, this has truly lit a fine under me. I have long been a vegetarian and animal lover, but had grown a bit lazy in my activism. As was said Saturday, the gloves are off now. There are too many of us in the state that work very hard, pay a lot of taxes and wish to enjoy the outdoors in peace, engaging in sports, taking photography, respecting nature and, if we are really lucky, getting a glimpse of beautiful wildlife. We have to take the power back. We cannot let a group of murderous thugs, backed by out of state ammo interests, dictate the environment and wildlife policies for the state. Please, let us all stay active, make a change, and sue those who have violated our rights. I am an attorney and plan on assisting wherever I am needed.

Submissions,

Thank you for your comment. You sound like a determined person, one who can move mountains. I suggest you get in touch with Angi Metler of the Animal Protection League of NJ (APLNJ).Here is their website: http://www.aplnj.org/

We have a lot of work ahead of us. Gov. Christie must not remain in office. NJ is experiencing a degeneration under him.

Philippines. Reporting Animal Cruelty. Emergency Numbers. RA 8485.

Because I belong to an group of animal welfare advocates in the Philippines, I can read the numerous discussions between group members and people who, seems to me, just signed up to make an urgent plea for help. There were two this week who begged for assistance concerning two dogs who were tied up under rain and sun with no food nor water. One was described to be on the verge of a heat stroke. The images that filled my mind disturbed me immensely, but I am also encouraged at the same time. There is a growing number of animal welfare advocates in the Philippines and ordinary citizens are beginning to reject animal cruelty, willing to take personal action against it. Just from this website, I can see from the visitor data that many are seeking information on how to report animal cruelty in the Philippines. You can find my previous post on the subject HERE . Keep in mind that your complaint has legal standing via the Philippine Animal Welfare Act which is also known as the RA 8485 ....

William Baber, Tennessee Vet Gone Bad.

Euthanasia is suppose to be merciful. When William Baber had his way, it was far from it. Baber used the very cruel " heart stick " method minus the sedation. This means that the animals could spend as long as 30 agonizing minutes before death actually occurred. Undercover video showed that William Baber even stepped on the animals to immobilize them for the injection. Do I sound like I am describing an executioner and not a veterinarian? Very sad, isn't it? The video showed dogs’ tails visibly wagging and cats are flailing before they’re given the lethal injection . "It’s just a horrible, horrible way for an animal to die,” said former euthanasia technician June McMahon. Tennessian.com reported that " still conscious, the cats were described by inmates as 'going wild' after being placed in a container, with as many as 10-15 of them being dumped on top of each other in a 'cruel manner,' authorities allege. These animals were allegedly placed ...

Philippines. Committee on Animal Welfare. Tambucho Gassing. Oscar Macenas. Fight for Compassion, Not Cruelty.

Believe it or not, the Committee on Animal Welfare (CAW) is again pushing for the reinstatement of Tambucho Gassing as an accepted form of euthanasia in the Philippines. This comes after CAW dragged its feet from August 2010 to April 2011, stultifying a directive from Secretary Proceso Alcala of the Department of Agriculture to rewrite a previous CAW-endorsed administrative order that embraced Tambucho Gassing like it was a God-sent cure-all for stray or unwanted animals. For those coming into this matter only now, Tambucho Gassing is not carbon monoxide gassing as CAW would like the world to believe. Tambucho Gassing is death by vehicular exhaust fumes. No gas cylinders are used, just a rubber hose connected to a clunky, old, usually badly tuned gas engine. The animals are entombed in a sealed metal container and toxic fumes are pumped into it. In terms of expediency, the process is slow, inefficient, and ineffective against the problem. In terms of humanity, it is depraved, utterly c...
