Philippines. Tarlac. Dogs for Adoption. Animal Kingdom Foundation.

Approximately an hour or so North of Manila is the city of Tarlac. That's home base for the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), a non-government organization dedicated to combating the dog meat trade among other animal welfare issues. They work with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in intercepting dog transporters by spot checking vans along the highways, usually operating off tips from concerned animal lovers. The AKF/PNP teams also conduct raids on eateries that serve dogmeat. It's pretty nasty work, but the AKF is up to the job. The natural byproduct, of course, are the rescued dogs. They are taken to a large shelter in Tarlac where they are treated and brought up to snuff for adoption. Here are several survivors from the dogmeat trade, all set to bring love and joy into the homes of those willing to give them a chance at a decent life. When you look at these dogs, you wonder about those who didn't make it out safely. The dogmeat trade has given the Philippines a very bad reputation, but I ask those who are inclined to quickly condemn to also consider that there are ten-fold more citizens who disapprove of the trade.

AKF good day! A dog here near my house was abandoned by his owner 4mos already. The owner moved to their new home & left the dog inside the house & the gate was closed. Everytime i saw him it seems dat he's begging for food. We always hear him bark day & night maybee bcoz he's in hunger. Everynight tinatapunan q sya ng pagkain pero its not enough i know. Aq lng po naghahagis sakanya once a day. If im @ home. No one wants to free and get him bcoz of their fear n baka makagat kmi dhl d kami amo. Pls help him rescue and save him. I can give the address i u will contact 09127281142 Im from tarlac city

First of all, I praise you for feeding the dog as much as you can. Some people just don't not care and that brings all of us down as a people and a nation. Why don't you just contact the Animal Kingdom Foundation. You have a legitimate concern for a neglected dog. The link to AKF is right on the post you commented on. Just move your mouse cursor over the name. They would be the closest to your location. Do it quick since there is a dog in dire need. Please continue to feed that dog until help comes.

Hello sir. Tnk u sir 4 ur response. Msan po 2 days aq wla sa house pag uwi q wla po nagpakain n kapit bahay naaawa aq sobra gutom nya kya ha2gisan q sya ng kanin kht toyo lang ulam nya. Last night i can still hear him barks maingay. Iniisip q baka patayin lng sya or katayin ng sinuman pag pinakawalan sya sa gate ska baka makakagat. I tried to search their contact # in google but i cannot reach them. It's unattended or unable. I dnt know how to contact them. Pls sir help me how to contact the AKF. I also tried to send msg and photo in their face book but still no response yet. Still hoping that they will read my msg.

Because I belong to an group of animal welfare advocates in the Philippines, I can read the numerous discussions between group members and people who, seems to me, just signed up to make an urgent plea for help. William Baber, Tennessee Vet Gone Bad.

Euthanasia is suppose to be merciful. When William Baber had his way, it was far from it. Baber used the very cruel " heart stick " method minus the sedation. This means that the animals could spend as long as 30 agonizing minutes before death actually occurred. Believe it or not, the Committee on Animal Welfare (CAW) is again pushing for the reinstatement of Tambucho Gassing as an accepted form of euthanasia in the Philippines. This comes after CAW dragged its feet from August 2010 to April 2011, stultifying a directive from Secretary Proceso Alcala of the Department of Agriculture to rewrite a previous CAW-endorsed administrative order that embraced Tambucho Gassing like it was a God-sent cure-all for stray or unwanted animals. For those coming into this matter only now, Tambucho Gassing is not carbon monoxide gassing as CAW would like the world to believe. Tambucho Gassing is death by vehicular exhaust fumes. No gas cylinders are used, just a rubber hose connected to a clunky, old, usually badly tuned gas engine. The animals are entombed in a sealed metal container and toxic fumes are pumped into it.
