The Canadian company, Elevages Perigord, has been accused of animal cruelty at their farm in Quebec. This company produces all sorts of duck-related products including foie gras. The products are equated with fine culinary taste and style, but their production is brutal. Elevages Perigord products can be found at Amazon.com who seems unmoved by the charges of animal cruelty. I have requested Amazon.com to drop their line of Elevages Perigord products, but all I got was a perfunctory email saying that my request was received and it will be forwarded to the higher ups. If you are a registered member of amazon.com, please urge them to take action. For my part, I find it a conflict of interest to continue buying from Amazon.com until they join the effort. I am still hoping that they would turn around the drop this supplier. Otherwise, action was taken against Elevage Perigord by several groups.
Farm Sanctuary does excellent work protecting and fighting for humane treatment of farm animals. You can find out more about them and their campaigns, including this one against Elevages Perigord, at their website http://www.farmsanctuary.org/ Here's a link to the complaint written by Gene Baur, President, and Andrew Plumbly, Director of Global Action Network to the Quebec provincial police: http://www.farmsanctuary.org/media/Letter_police.pdf This is very important stuff. There are videos taken by a sympathetic insider to prove the point. I believe that this employee was dismissed by the company for his cooperation with the animal rights organization. Please do not patronize any products by Elevages Perigord. Please do not get involved with foie gras at all. Foie Gras is the sickened and enlarged liver of a duck. Why consume it?
" Ducks and geese used in foie gras production are de-billed, de-toed and forced to live in extreme confinement in filthy, poorly maintained cages. Nutritionally incomplete gruel is pressure-pumped down their throats through a metal pipe several times a day. This force-feeding is known to cause bruising, lacerations, sores, trauma, and even death. It also creates the grossly oversized and diseased "fatty liver" for which foie gras is named. Gasping, regurgitating and struggling to move, the birds endure this process every day at the end of their short lives. " Farm Sanctuary
Here is a video that could upset you but I find it necessary to present in hopes that you will be moved to fight against Elevages Perigord and animal cruelty. Do not view this video if you don't have the stomach for it.
